Rules and Frequently Asked Questions (Effective July 30, 2010)

  • Categories: Women's Singles & Doubles, Men's Singles & Doubles, and Mixed Doubles
  • Age Requirement:  A player must be at least 18 years of age on the last day of  league.
  • Matches:  Matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets; Coman tiebreaker (see explanation below) will be played at 6 all in each set (1st to 7 pts, win by 2) and for the 3rd set (1st to 10 pts, win by 2).
  • Scoring:  No-ad scoring is used - first player/team to win 4 points wins the game.  At 3 points all, receiver has the choice of receiving serve in the right or left court; in mixed doubles, man serves to the man, woman serves to the woman.
  • Lateness:  A player/team will be defaulted if he/she is 15 or more minutes late.
  • Substitutes:  A player/team is responsible for getting his/her own sub.  Each player/team may use subs as often as necessary; however, relying on even one sub will take you out of the running for 1st or 2nd place.
  • Rescheduling:  A player/team may reschedule one (1) match per league providing opponent(s) agree.  Player must contact high point and opponent.  All remaining matches must be played as scheduled; if you can not do so, you must either provide an appropriate sub or forfeit the match.
  • How do I contact my opponent(s)?  Tennis Center staff will provide a phone list of all opponents.  Phone list will be handed out on the first day of your scheduled league.
  • How do I know if my match is cancelled due to bad weather?  Whenever possible, Tennis Center staff will make the decision to cancel league play at least one hour prior to start time. Players should call the High Point weather hotline (972-941-7170, option 1) to check for league cancellations and weather updates.
  • Points Awarded/Scoring:  Win - 10 pts.;  3 Set Loss - 7 pts.;  2 Set Loss - 5 pts.;  Forfeit - 0 pts.
  • Match Results/Schedules:  Winner is responsible for reporting scores and returning balls.  All scores and schedule of play is posted online.   League Schedules, Scores & Standings
  • Awards:  Trophies or gift certificates (player's choice) are awarded to first and second place participants.  Please note if your league is not full (8 players/teams), then only first place may be awarded.
